Over the centuries, number 155 has taken on many different forms. The building was constructed around 1600 and has since served as a merchant’s house, inn, tobacco company, and guesthouse. In its time as a guesthouse, all rooms were fitted with their own shower and toilet. At the rear of the building there was originally a kolf court, but the property has been repeatedly adapted to meet the needs of each era. Around 1920, a new shopfront and balcony were added, elements that have since gained monumental status themselves. Today, the building has found a new purpose as a wellness hub and is home to a diverse mix of wellness providers. In doing so, this historic property continues its long tradition of hospitality.

The Warmoesstraat is one of the oldest and most legendary streets in Amsterdam. Running parallel to the Damrak, it connects the corner of Prins Hendrikkade and Zeedijk with Dam Square.
The history of the Warmoesstraat dates back to the 13th century. Originally, it formed the eastern quay of the River Amstel, before the city expanded and the Damrak was constructed. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was the city’s main shopping street, where wealthy merchants lived in stately townhouses and traded in spices and luxury goods. Many of today’s façades conceal medieval timber structures that rank among the oldest in the city.
Today, the Warmoesstraat has a highly diverse and eclectic character. It is alive with specialty coffee bars, cafés, and restaurants, as well as quirky boutiques, art platform W139, and the location of the city’s oldest (and most notorious) police station.
